The story of Archaeology

Phoenix Illustrated, 1997. 255 pp. Illustrated in colours. Softbinding.

Paul G. Bahn: The story of Archaeology. Very fine copy. Produced very much as an introductory book for the general public, this volume lists 100 “headline grabbers” – archaeological discoveries which are likely to catch the increasingly short-lived attention of the man on the street. Written in simplistic language and accompanied by colour photographs, it should do just that with features on “finds” and sites such as Halstatt, Ur, Ebla, China’s terracotta army, the Neolithic flint mines of Europe and Tutankhamun.
